Matchup Analysis
Sheffield title defense
Dalton Smith puts his WBC super-lightweight title on the line against mandatory challenger Alberto Puello at Utilita Arena Sheffield. It is a hometown defense for Smith, adding a significant crowd dynamic to his first defense.
SourceSmith arrives off a statement win
Smith claimed the belt with a fifth-round stoppage of Subriel Matías in January. That performance established his ability to finish at world level, though Puello presents a different kind of opponent.
SourcePuello’s southpaw range is the puzzle
Puello is a mobile southpaw with a listed 71-inch reach, compared with Smith’s 69½ inches and orthodox stance. That geometry gives the challenger a route to score from range and make Smith work to close distance.
SourcePuello kept busy during the delay
After the original date was postponed, Puello stayed active with a fourth-round stoppage of Miguel Ángel Bolaño in July. That gives him a recent ring outing ahead of the Sheffield challenge.
SourceEarlier injury delayed the matchup
Smith’s training injury forced the fight’s original June date to be rescheduled. He later said he had recovered and returned to training; the available reporting does not establish a new injury issue.
SourcePick Ideas
Over 10.5 rounds
A market listing showed Over 10.5 rounds at -350, reflecting a strong expectation of a long contest. Consider it rather than trying to pinpoint an exact finish round, while recognizing the price offers limited return.
Smith moneyline, but shop the price
Recent prices have placed Smith around -175 to -185, with Puello roughly +140 to +154. Smith is the straightforward side, but compare books and avoid laying a substantially shorter price.
