VMI KEYDETS @ SMU

VMI brings a high-volume perimeter attack

VMI made 18 of 44 threes in its opener, with TJ Johnson making five; that volume gives SMU an early arc-defense test.

VMI’s frontcourt made its presence felt

VMI collected 56 rebounds, including 21 offensive boards, against Virginia-Lynchburg, creating a significant box-out challenge for SMU.

Toombs offers SMU a connective piece

Jaden Toombs opened with nine points, eight rebounds, seven assists and three blocks, giving SMU a multifaceted contributor.

A first meeting in the middle of SMU’s homestand

SMU’s preview calls this the first meeting between the programs and the second game of a six-game homestand, while VMI begins a Texas road swing.

No confirmed lineup or injury update found

Available official materials do not confirm starters or a specific injury absence, so projected rotations and availability remain unconfirmed.

Pick Ideas

Angles drawn from the matchup analysis above and refreshed as the news changes. They are a separate read from the LineCrush pick for this matchup, so the two can land on different sides.

Wait for a game-specific number

I could not verify a current VMI-SMU spread or total; compare prices across books once a line is posted.

Consider VMI only with a substantial cushion

If the spread is very large, consider VMI plus points rather than backing the Keydets outright, with a price threshold set before tip.

Be cautious with a pregame total

With one regular-season game per team, the early scoring sample is thin; consider waiting for live pace and shot quality before betting a total.
